Seasonal Light Variations: The altitude differences in the Chugoku Mountains create rich microclimates. Autumn foliage gradually descends from high elevations starting mid-October to valley floors by late November, providing photographers with a two-month window to chase the maple colors. Sankyo Gorge Premium Trail

The one-way trail takes 2.5 hours. We recommend bringing a wide-angle lens for capturing waterfall panoramas and a telephoto lens for shooting light details.
Mount Hiba Highland Loop Trail

At 1,264 meters elevation, Mount Hiba is the best sea of clouds photography spot in the Chugoku region. Taishaku Gorge Limestone Wonders

The 18 km Taishaku Gorge is famous for its karst terrain. The "Otōbashi" (Male Bridge) natural arch bridge is a must-shoot spot. Practical Photography Information
Self-Drive Route Planning
Starting from Hiroshima City, we recommend a 3-4 day circular route: Day 1 Sankyo Gorge (1.5 hours drive), Day 2 Mount Hiba area, Day 3 Taishaku Gorge, and finally return to Miyajima. Total distance is approximately 400 km, with car rental at approximately ¥12,000/day (including insurance).
Accommodation Recommendations
In the Mount Hiba area, we recommend "Kimitsu Onsen Mori no Sen" (¥15,000/night), with rooms facing the mountain view, ideal for capturing dawn and dusk shots. Near Taishaku Gorge, "Kankashu Taishaku Gorge" (¥18,500/night including two meals) has an excellent location, just 5 minutes walk to the main shooting spots.
