MOP vs HKD: Which Currency is More Cost-Effective?▼
The official exchange rate between Macau Pataca (MOP) and Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) is fixed at 1:1.03, meaning 1 HKD can be exchanged for approximately 1.03 MOP. In Cotai, the vast majority of shops accept both currencies, but change is typically given in Macau Pataca. Since Macau Pataca can hardly be exchanged in Hong Kong or Taiwan, it is recommended to use up all MOP before the end of your trip, or exchange them back to HKD at the airport exchange counter (with a fee of approximately 1% to 2%).
