Introduction
Among all districts in Macao, Coloane is the only family paradise that preserves the tranquility of a fishing village. Compared to the urbanized areas of the Macao Peninsula and Taipa, Coloane's low-density development, complete public safety facilities, and friendly community atmosphere make it the top choice for family travelers. Not only does it have the lowest crime rate in all of Macao, but more importantly, it has a safety service network specifically designed for families.
Key Highlights
Coloane's family safety advantages stem from its unique community structure. With only 8,000 permanent residents across the island, it creates a security atmosphere where "everyone knows each other." The local police station adopts a community patrol system, with officers familiar with every street and alley, showing special attention to visitors. In addition, Coloane is the only area in Macao equipped with beach lifeguard services. Both Hac Sa Beach and Cheoc Van Beach have professional lifeguards on duty year-round, providing double protection for family swimming activities.
Most commendable is Coloane's "zero missing children" record. Due to its relatively isolated geographical location, coupled with residents' proactive assistance, there has not been a single case of a child missing for more than 30 minutes in the past decade. This record is extremely rare among Asian tourist destinations.
Recommended Safety Service Points
Hac Sa Beach Lifeguard Station
Macao's most professional family beach safety service center. Equipped with 8 internationally certified lifeguards, using modern monitoring devices to patrol the sea area 24 hours. The station has an emergency broadcast system for missing children, with the average recovery time being only 8 minutes. The beach is divided into shallow water family zones and deep water zones. The shallow water area does not exceed 1.2 meters in depth, making it especially suitable for children under 12. The lifeguard station offers free children's life jacket lending (sizes suitable for ages 2-15), the only beach in Macao providing this service.
Coloane Municipal Court Tourist Service Center
The core of Coloane's safety command, offering 24-hour emergency assistance in Chinese, English, and Portuguese. The center is directly connected to the Public Security Police Force, able to dispatch police forces within 3 minutes in emergencies. Services include medical emergency coordination, missing person assistance, and tourism dispute mediation. The center maintains a complete directory of local medical facilities, including 24-hour pediatric emergency services, which is extremely important for families traveling with young children.
St. Francis Xavier Church Community Safety Network
This century-old church is not only a religious venue but also the spiritual center of Coloane's community safety. The "Guardian Angels" team formed by parish volunteers provides free guided tours and safety companionship services for tourists. Every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, volunteers are present at the church square to provide free consultations for family tourists, including safety route planning, weather alerts, and child-friendly restaurant recommendations.
Andrew's Bakery Surrounding Commercial Area
As the most well-known commercial area in Coloane, a mature family safety guarantee system has been established here. All 12 surrounding merchants are equipped with unified emergency call systems, and any shop can contact police and medical units during emergencies. The commercial area has 3 child safety monitoring points equipped with high-definition cameras and real-time missing child tracking systems. The bakery itself provides baby changing facilities and child safety seats, one of the few merchants in Macao to receive international family-friendly certification.
Bamboo Bay Hotel Security Guard Services
Even non-guests can use the hotel's family safety services. The hotel has a professional security team to provide services for families active at Bamboo Bay Beach, including baggage storage, temporary child care (within 1 hour), and emergency medical coordination. During beach activity periods, hotel security patrols every 30 minutes to ensure visitor safety. Service fee is MOP$50 per family per day, including basic insurance coverage.

Travel Tips
Special attention to beach safety is needed during Coloane's typhoon season (July-September). It is recommended to check the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau's typhoon warnings before departure. When Typhoon Signal No. 3 is hoisted, all beach activities will be suspended.
Families with young children are advised to prepare bilingual contact cards (in Chinese and English), including the child's name, parent's phone number, and accommodation location. Although Coloane has an extremely low missing child rate, this preventive measure gives parents greater peace of mind.
The golden hour for family photography in Coloane is during sunset (6:00-7:00 PM), but it is also when tidal changes are most significant. When engaging in beach activities, be sure to follow the lifeguards' safety tips and avoid letting children approach the sea alone during this period.
