Stanley is a seaside town on the southern coast of Hong Kong Island, filled with exotic charm. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, it offers a relaxed vacation atmosphere, colorful buildings, and beautiful beach views, making it a popular escape for both locals and tourists.

Stanley's history dates back to the 18th century when it was a small fishing village. The British later developed the area, gradually shaping it into what we see today. The area retains many colonial-era buildings, such as Murray House and the Former Stanley Police Station, walking through which feels like stepping back in time.

A must-visit in Stanley is the Stanley Market. Dozens of shops here sell various souvenirs, handicrafts, clothing, and jewelry. The market has an exotic atmosphere, and you can often see foreign tourists picking out unique souvenirs. I recommend visiting in the early morning or evening when the weather is cooler and you can enjoy a more tranquil atmosphere.

Murray House is one of Stanley's most famous landmarks. This Victorian-style building was constructed in the 19th century, originally located in Central, and later relocated and rebuilt in Stanley. With three floors, it now houses restaurants and shops. The building's elegant exterior is full of colonial charm, making it a great spot for photos.

Stanley Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Hong Kong Island's southern district, with clear water and fine sand in a beautiful setting. The beach has changing rooms and lifeguards on duty, making it perfect for families to swim and play. During the busy summer season, the beach is filled with sunbathers and beach volleyball players, creating a lively atmosphere.

Blake Pier is another attraction not to be missed. This pier was built in the 1960s and was an important transportation hub connecting Aberdeen and Stanley. Although no longer used for ferries, it still offers a great place to enjoy sea views. Watching the sunset here in the evening is particularly stunning.

Stanley Plaza is a recently completed shopping center that combines shopping and dining options. The modern building design features an open-air plaza that occasionally hosts outdoor concerts and market events, bringing new vitality to Stanley.

For food lovers, Stanley offers a rich variety of restaurants. From seafood street stalls to Western restaurants, Italian cuisine to Thai food, there's something for everyone. I recommend trying the seafood in Stanley—it's fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced.

Stanley's bus terminal has bus routes to various parts of Hong Kong Island. The most convenient option is City Bus Route 629, which runs directly from Central Exchange Square to Stanley in about 30 minutes. You can also take the MTR to Chai Wan Station and transfer to a bus from there.

For visiting Stanley, I recommend allocating half a day to a full day. Start your morning by exploring the Stanley Market and Murray House, enjoy a seafood lunch at noon, spend the afternoon sunbathing at the beach or strolling along Blake Pier. End your day watching the sunset along the waterfront promenade for a perfect finish.

Stanley enjoys mild weather year-round. The best time to visit is from autumn to spring when the weather is cool and comfortable. Although summer can be hot, there are more beach activities, making it a good option too.
