The Cathedral was first built in 1576 and serves as the Bishop's seat of the Macao Catholic Diocese, as well as one of Macao's oldest churches. St. Dominic's Church was built in 1587, founded by Spanish Dominican friars. The exterior is a bright yellow and white Baroque facade, more lively in style than the Cathedral. The interior ceiling's caisson decorations and saint's niche details are highly intricate—recommend bringing a flashlight or using phone lighting. The church's third floor houses a relic treasury museum, containing a considerable collection of religious sculptures and statues, including several ivory-carved Virgin Mary statues, which were top-tier custom work at the time, reflecting Macao's wealth as an East-West trade transit hub.

If just needing an energy boost, there are several shops near St. Dominic's Square selling Portuguese egg tarts and pork chop buns—the egg tarts are freshly baked, with Portuguese-style crust (puff pastry) differing from Hong Kong-style (creamy pastry), so ask before ordering.
