However, when you've finished exploring, why not slow down your pace and find a milk tea shop to sit down and have a drink – the milk tea culture here is different from what you might think.
Causeway Bay's milk tea shops have their own unique way of surviving. In this high-rent environment, the small shops that manage to stay open all have their special qualities: some rely on years of word-of-mouth from local residents, some on niche positioning, and some on stylish packaging to attract likes.

The biggest characteristic of milk tea in this district is "fast, precise, and efficient." Many office workers and tourists are in "takeaway mode" – unlike old-school dai pai dong where you can sit and relax, most milk tea here comes in takeaway paper cups or disposable cups from within the shopping mall. The reason is simple: the foot traffic and rents in Causeway Bay are directly proportional, so there's no time to leisurely enjoy your tea.
Another characteristic is the clear divide between "Hong Kong-style vs. Taiwanese." Traditional Hong Kong-style milk tea (also called "silk stocking milk tea") features a strong tea base and uses evaporated milk rather than plant-based cream; whereas the recently popular Taiwanese bubble tea includes pearls and konjac, creating an entirely different culture. You can order both at the same shop – this flexibility is precisely what makes Hong Kong remarkable.
Finally, there are many "hidden gem" specials that must be mentioned. Due to the rent issues in Causeway Bay, many locally famous old shops have had to "shrink to second-tier locations" or hide in upstairs premises within buildings – unless you have regular customers to show you the way, or like me who explores everywhere, they're actually quite difficult to discover.

If you ask old Hong Kong people "where in Causeway Bay can you sit down and enjoy a drink slowly?", eight out of ten will tell you "澳牛" (Australian Milk Company). That's right, it's the very popular old-school cha chaan teng. Their scrambled egg toast is certainly legendary, but the milk tea should not be overlooked – the tea base is strong and deliberately bitter, designed to be paired with toast. The selling point here is: you can sit down, relax, and take your time – no need to rush off. This itself is a luxury in Causeway Bay. G/F, Cheung Hing Building, 2 San Wai Road, HK$28-35 per cup, open 7am-9pm. Suitable for tourists wanting to experience the old-school cha chaan teng atmosphere – but do note it's closed on Wednesdays.
2️⃣ Chun Shui Tang (Times Square)
Being the "founding father" of Taiwanese bubble tea, Chun Shui Tang has been at Times Square for many years, serving many tourists. Their bubble milk tea has a fragrant enough tea base, and the pearls are nicely chewy – not hard and rubbery. The biggest advantage is the convenient location – after shopping, you can easily grab a cup and head to the next street to continue retail therapy. B1, Times Square, HK$40-55 per cup, open all year round. Suitable for tourists with limited time, but the shop is small with few seats, so takeaway is usually required.
3️⃣ Zheng's Milk Tea (Paterson Street)
This is truly a "hidden gem" level – tucked away in a small alley on Paterson Street, the owner has been selling milk tea for over a decade. Their signature "Supreme Silk Stocking Milk tea" uses what the owner claims are premium Sri Lankan tea leaves – the brewed tea is genuinely much richer and smoother than chain shops outside. This is what "wisdom in the alleyways" means – don't think quality only exists in big, noisy places.
